Fantasy Football Week 7 Rankings: TE

Vernon DavisLast weekend wasn't a pleasant one for most of the top-tier fantasy tight ends. And yes, many fantasy owners felt some (not nearly all) of the pain. The best tight end in the game, Antonio Gates, went down with an apparent ankle or toe injury. We still aren't 100-percent sure what or how significant the injury really is. And more important, we aren't sure if he'll even play this weekend. Add Chris Cooley to the list with a concussion, Dallas Clark is out "indefinitely" and Vernon Davis suffered a bruised knee. Ouch!

To make matters worse, the bye weeks deplete us of regular studs Dustin Keller and the aforementioned Dallas Clark. There are plenty of viable options that could be good fill-in spot starts. However, more than ever you've gotta pay attention to the injury wire and see who gets the start on Sunday. You have to downgrade Gates slightly, even if he plays, but you can't bench him if he is going to play. So, for this week we're rolling with Vernon Davis as the pack leader and, provided he does play, he draws a very favorable matchup against the Panthers. Look for big, big numbers.

As for the rest of the ranks...
