Chargers TE Gates injures ankle

Adding insult to injury following a loss to the Rams, Chargers TE was in a protective boot after the game and the San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee said Gates' injury "doesn't look good."

Gates had two catches for 12 yards in the 20-17 loss and rolled his ankle twice. He returned to the field after missing two plays in the first half, then left the game again and did not return.

Gates leads the Chargers in receptions and receiving TDs.

The way we see it

The Chargers' road troubles continued and the preseason AFC West favorites are now 2-4. Gates is QB Phillip Rivers' top target and arguably his best weapon, especially inside the red zone. Losing Gates for an extended period of time would be a huge blow to San Diego.

Fantasy Spin

Gates' fantasy owners should keep a close eye on this injury as more news develops as he has been the best fantasy tight end this season. Luckily, this has been the year of the tight end so there are many solid options available, but none as valuable as Gates.
