Browns NT Rubin will continue to hold off Rogers

We've been hearing the following whispers from around the AFC North:

• It looks like Browns NT Ahtyba Rubin will be keeping his spot in the starting lineup going forward, the way we hear it. Rubin, who filled in for Shaun Rogers last season when Rogers left the lineup with a leg injury, has played well in the middle. Rogers has practiced sporadically this season and has three tackles in four games.

• The Ravens are searching for more out of their kickoff-return game and gave CB Josh Wilson a chance to return kicks ahead of Jalen Parmele in Week Five. Rookie David Reed could also get a chance soon, the way we hear it. "We're just looking for a big play," head coach John Harbaugh said of the club's kickoff returns. Harbaugh and special-teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg both have said the entire group needs to play better.

• Asked if the playing time that rookie QB Colt McCoy could garner with Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme battling ankle injuries would help the Browns make a call on whether McCoy was their quarterback of the future, head coach Eric Mangini had the following response: "I don't think we're going to make a decision off of a few weeks. ... It's going to be probably more of an overview look at what he's done and what he can do. This is definitely some added information you're getting. You get a chance to look at him in games, which is a plus, but it's hard to say." Delhomme, 35, is signed through 2011, while Wallace becomes a free agent after this season.
